Who’s Kelly?
You might be interested to know who we are here at CCP. As you might expect, many of the technical aspects are increasingly delegated to the younger members of the team. As one person who wrote us put it, “only those under 30 seem to come at this stuff naturally.” (The writer actually said 25, but that’s a little low in my estimate).
I have time to focus, today, on only one person, so in that I’m the person doing the writing, I choose Kelly!
Kelly is our daughter. (I know what you’re thinking.) We would have hired her, even if she were not. She brings to CCP an avid, lifelong, interest in the arts! She takes the lead in all decisions regarding the craft arts and searches the web for new craft artists, blogs, events, and new materials. Additionally, she is our chief “Offline Editor” - the one who takes miles of digital tape and organizes it into the “rough cut”. Most of the content you see (and don’t see) in our art instruction DVDs is the result of her keen eye and great judgment about what needs to be kept and what needs to be cut to make the content-rich DVDs you get to learn from. Jim and I did this for the first 4 years of CCP and we know how important, difficult and frustrating it can be. Occasionally we can hear her yelling at us for having missed a shot while filming. Then she uses her creative genius to overcome our “skill” by finding another angle or still.
Kelly also writes CRAFT CAT, the E-newsletter that focuses on the craft arts side of the industry. She has the very valuable ability to look at a situation and break it down into small ‘chunks’ and solve a problem that may have stumped the rest of us. Seeing the whole AND it’s parts is one of the benefits of ‘thinking like an artist’.
On the personal side, Kelly is currently acting in a four woman, community theater play that is set in the era immediately after the Civil War. Her role has her on stage 90% of the time. She has also been a Rotary foreign exchange student (Slovakia) and has traveled in Europe and Latin America. Her degree is in journalism and electronic media from the University of Oregon. - Lynn
